Lists files grouped by File Extensions in the order of occupied disk space or number of files of that file extension. See the following Feature Cards for additional Tree and Flat Lists, charts in ShowSize...

File Types list helps you find out what file types (extensions) are taking the most disk space
For example, in the accompanying screenshot, you can see that SYS files take up the most disk space.
I have expanded the ZIP files group to see the details of the zip files taking up the space.
The largest zip file is a deleted file sitting in the Recycle Bin. This also reminds me that I have not emptied the Recycle Bin.
Let's see what common features ShowSize provides for all its lists. Click here to proceed.
Features available on all the lists
Moving to a different list on the Tab does not cause a rescan. Already scanned data is used to fill up the list.
You can exclude certain known folders to save on scanning time. For example, you can exclude Windows system and program folders because you can't directly control space in these folders anyway.
Drill down by expanding a list.
Many useful operations are available on the selected items on the toolbar and the right-click menu as shown in the picture.
Display a pie chart on up to 32 largest items based on size or number of files in them.
For complete details and examples on these common features, please see the slides at the top of the Home page.

What you can do with File Types list?
Suppose, you have a big folder "F:\Photos and Travel docs" containing lots of JPG photographs in many subfolders along with some documents and zip files. You quickly want to see how much space the JPG files are taking so that you can put them on a CD. To do that, just run ShowSize on that location to get the File Types list. Then expand the files under JPG file type. Select them all and copy their full names to the clipboard. Then do whatever you want with that list. For example, you can give the list to a disk utility or a batch file that can copy the files to some other location.
Supoose, you want to delete all .tmp files in a development folder. To do that, run ShowSize on that folder to get the File Types list. Then select all files under the .TMP extension and delete them directly from within ShowSize by using the right-click menu.
Whenever you need more disk space, you can use this list to identify the file types that are taking too much disk space. Then you are likely to recognize a file type or a certain file that you no longer use. You can remove them directly as described above.
Keep your drives junk free. Get that nice "organized" feeling that you are in control of your disk space.
Install this list on the right-click menu of Windows File Manager so that you can start ShowSize quickly from there to show this list.
Print this list easily.
ShowSize has other useful lists too. Please get the details from the Home page.

ShowSize is heavy-duty software
Modern disk drives are huge, running into terabytes of disk space and millions of folders and files. DO NOT USE "Toy programs" to analyze disk space on such huge disks. ShowSize is designed for heavy use with its features like virtual lists with huge capacity and Exclude Folders to save time on scanning.
